I'm on a boat!

Another bout on the Schooner Alliance. South bound from Cape Charles, VA to the Dominican Republic. Took us a good 9 days. Not too shabby.

Billy stealing the glory...he totally didn't catch those fish. Pretty sure he had just woken up from a nap when the fish were caught, convincing though.
So to make up for stealing the glory earlier, Billy then caught a rather large marlin. Took some where in the vicinity of an hour to reel the sucker in and then getting it aboard was another story. Needless to say the freezer is fairly well stocked.

Land ho!

Wait for it....

Working our way into the harbor at Luperon proved slightly more difficult than expected thanks to the cloudy weather and strange colored buoys. We only ran aground once...
Sweet parking spot...ummm, yeah.
Looking at Luperon from the water after a little fresh water rinse passed over.

Small time sailing in the harbor.

Alan and his new found buddy at the dock.
The dingy dock. Kind of a sketchy enterprise particularly in the dark. Convenient that it was dark the first time I made it to shore.
Go ahead, climb over that wall.

We didn't have a whole lot of time in Luperon but we did manage to make it to the beach. We rented motorcycles for the day, ok, half the day for those of us that had watch duty. Anyway, motorcycles are pretty much the best way to get around and they are cheap, kind of like everything else.

The boat headed south, on to Columbia and Panama. Three of us jumped ship and headed back to the states. On the way to the airport Pat, Kevin and I took a little detour through old town Puerto Plata. Some guy materialized and took us around to various gift shops and such which seemed all good until he wanted $20 per person for his "services". Lame!

Seriously questioning why I decided to get off the boat especially since it it decided to snow as soon as I got back. What is with that? Seems to be a common theme when I get off the boat. Happened last year too. Amazing. Oh well, can't win them all.
